Mum in Java

Mum is here and goes back on Wednesday. We had a quiet time in the wake of losing Bapak, and on Monday and Tuesday we will remember him.

Last week we explored the Bogor market... with the possible exception of bed, I can think of finer place to be early on a Sunday morning.

Selamat Idul Fitri

It is Idul Fitri in Java - this marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Last week I spent the late afternoon in Teman Kencana, near our house in Bogor. As the end of the day's fasting approaches the families and friends gather near the restaurants and warung and prepare to break the fast at sunset. It was a moving experience...
